Onmyoji [2001]
The 2001 film adaptation of the book series was directed by Takita Yojiro, and starred noted kangen stage actor Mansai Nomura as Abe no Seimei, who was the author's personal choice to play the role.
It was notable as the first film in Japan to use wire work, and won numerous awards including Outstanding Lead Actor for Nomura. The author, Yumemakura Baku, assisted in the screenplay. It was instrumental in the development of the modern Onmyoji genre and popularity, and is still beloved by fans. Star Japanese figure skater Yuzuru Hanyu performed a Seimei-inspired routine that Nomura helped him design, to music from the films, which led to another rise in Seimei's popularity.
